Jaana Tirronen - Helsinki, Finland
Hello! My name is Jaana and I live in Helsinki, the capital town of
Finland. I come from a rather musical family, for example my mother
used to sing in a dance band in the 50's and her cousin played very
good mandolin and sang too (she's too old now for that!) So I guess
I already
had the love for music from my mother's milk.
Rock
'n' Roll came in my life in 1975 when I heard a
slow foreign song
on the radio which I liked very much. I found out that it was Elvis
who was singing. So I went to a library and looked for information
about this man who had such an amazing voice. At
that time I was still very young and I had a dream to one day go to
the USA and see Elvis on stage. But unfortunately fate decided otherwise.
At
the end of the 70's, I listened on cassette tapes
to
many old Rock 'n' Roll and Rockabilly artists, such as Buddy Holly,
Bill Haley, Chubby Checker, Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran and so on.
At that time I didn't have a record player, it came later.
I
also like roots music, specially country and bluegrass. Then there
was a little break when life took me in another direction, but I never
forgot Elvis and Rock 'n' Roll.
I started to concentrate again
on Rock 'n' Roll, Rockabilly and music generally in the 90's and as
I've always loved writing, it was a quite a natural extension that
I started to write for a few of the scene's magazines. And here I
am, still writing, and still loving music.
